6(x-1) = 6x-1. The two equations are not equivalent. When you distribute the 6 on the left side you will get 6x-6=6x-1. Add the 6 the other side and get 6x= 6x+5. Then subtract the 6x on the right side to the left and youll notice it cancels itself out. there is no solution.

There is no solution. The first step to solving the equation is distributing the 6 into the x-1, and after that the equation looks like this: 6x-1=6x-1, which, if you were to finish solving the equation, would end up being 0=0, or in other words <em>no solution. </em>
