The people of the Vedic Age were farmers. The Aryans’ technology improved farming in India. They dug deep wells and irrigation systems to water their fields. They invented an iron plow to help clear India’s many jungles. They planted seeds and used animals to plow the fields. They grew barley, corn, and rice. They had a short growing season. They were the first to use the manure of their cattle and oxen to enrich the soil. Ownership of land became important. The early metallurgists of India used their knowledge to make tools and art. Because the people here lived peacefully, they did not need to make many swords or shields. The people of the Vedic Age were farmers. The Aryans’ technology improved farming in India.
