The statement that uses the correct MLA in-text citation would be A. This is the case because MLA in-text citations are inserted in the body of the text. They include the last name of the author followed by the page number in parentehesis. For instance, "this is a quotation" (López 388).  As you can see, the period goes outside the brackets.

However, in these examples, the name of the author is mentioned in the sentence, so it should not be included in the in-text citation as well,  as shown in D.
