1. What was the date of the first settlement in the Virginia Colony. What was the reason for the founding of the Virginia Colony
algol13

Answer:

1. The Virginia Colony was founded in 1607 by John Smith and other colonists including John Rolfe backed by the London Company, at Jamestown. Named after Queen Elizabeth I of England - the "Virgin Queen".What were the reasons for English colonization in America? England wanted to establish an American colony to increase her wealth and power. England hoped to find silver and gold in America.

2.June 20, 1632: King Charles I grants a charter for the Maryland Colony. March 25, 1634: The first group of settlers, led by Leonard Calvert, reach St. Clement's Island in the Potomac River. They established St. Mary's City, the first Maryland settlement.

The territory was named Maryland in honor of Henrietta Maria, the queen consort of Charles I. Before settlement began, George Calvert died and was succeeded by his son Cecilius, who sought to establish Maryland as a haven for Roman Catholics persecuted in England.

3.The first permanent European settlement in northern Carolina was established in the Albemarle Sound region by Virginians, around 1653.The North Carolina Colony landscape included coastal plains, mountain ranges and plateaus. Farming and agriculture were extremely important to the settlers because of the warm climate and vast farmland.

4.In 1607, the British built the settlement of Jamestown in Virginia. The land south of Virginia was called Carolina. The first permanent British settlement in South Carolina was founded in 1670. It would later become the city of Charleston. The reason that South Carolina was founded was to provide money to the king, land to the Nobility, and goods to the Empire. Also, South Carolina was heavily dependent on rice and other crops while North Carolina was dependent on lumber so they were split in 1729.

5.In November of 1732, 114 people left from the River Thames to settle Britain's new colony of Georgia. They arrived at Port Royal, South Carolina. The purpose of Georgia was twofold: To have a state between South Carolina and Spanish Florida that would act as a buffer and to create an opportunity for indebted British citizens to have a fresh start.

Hope this helps :)
