What happened to world war 1 veterans as a result of the depression
denis-greek [22]

Answer:

There was a major effect on the veterans due to Great Depression.

Explanation:

World war 1 had caused major economic problems in number of countries. There were war debts, reparations imposed on countries leading to crisis and thus Great Depression.

After the World war 1, bonus was announced for the veterans as a reward for their service. But, when they returned home, they faced bad treatment. Veterans demanded for their lost wages. Congress even passed a law to fulfil the same but that was not given until 1945. Veterans had no money, no food, no jobs and in some cases no homes. They served for their country and were treated like this. They (called as Bonus Army after they returned from war) stayed in makeshift homes with their families. Soon, Gen MacArthur ordered an attack on them by tear gas, and with bayonets.
