Born in Moscow, Russia on June 9, 1672, Peter the Great was a Russian czar in the late 17th century who is best known for his extensive reforms in an attempt to establish Russia as a great nation. He created a strong navy, reorganized his army according to Western standards, secularized schools, administered greater control over the reactionary Orthodox Church, and introduced new administrative and territorial divisions of the country.

Totalitarianism is a form of government, where when anyone speaks up against the government, they get shot. People supported totalitarian leaders like Hitler, because they believed (in Hitler's supporters case) that the Jews had stabbed Germany in the back after WWI, that communists had done the same, that the Treaty of Versailles was unfair to Germany, that the Weimar Republic was ineffective, that Germans were separated from each other (after the border changes of WWI), and thus should be reunited. They also believed that Hitler was some great savior of Germany.
