Slavery started because people liked having other people work for free, so they enslaved others. They were brought by ships from Africa. They would usually work on farms and ranches. The jobs were different because of the climate. One type of climate made it possible to grow cotton, another to grow tobacco, another for crops, and so on. They were important because they were free. Since wealthy land owners didn't have to pay workers, they got extremely rich because they had almost no losses at all.
The philosophy being referred to in this definition is known as New Federalism.
The goal of this ideology is to give a significant amount of power back to the state government. Nixon, along with other Republicans, felt that the federal government was far too large in its scope and power. This policy of new federalism would roll back this power so that state governments can make decisions based on their individual needs.

There is without a doubt a bias in the media. This is because there are corporate interests on both sides of the political spectrum. The cable news networks that dominate the airwaves today such as CNN and Fox News both show intense bias due to the ideas of the people who run these networks. Unfortunately, truly unbiased media is very rare these days.
