A country is given self-determination, or allowing the citizens to set up their own type of government, and to institute the form of government that they want. However, we must note that it is not always by the people, for the people, but sometimes it can also be that rich, powerful person(s) may coup and take over the government (hence having dictators). Self-determination, however, is the term given to countries that have the ability to determine what kind of government they want, and what powers the government is allowed to use.
