Nearly a century after its publication, F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" remains a literary classic. High school English teacher David Dowling writes that America's continued obsession with materialism is one reason for the novel's permanence, depicting the conflict between moral values and the desire for wealth that still entangles people today.
