In Richard Connell’s short story “The Most Dangerous Game,” Zaroff’s aristocratic appearance and dignified manners mask his sini

ster, animalistic nature. Which line from the excerpt best provides a glimpse into his true nature?
Rainsford’s first impression was that the man was singularly handsome; his second was that there was an original, almost bizarre quality about the general’s face. He was a tall man past middle age, for his hair was a vivid white; but his thick eyebrows and pointed military mustache were as black as the night from which Rainsford had come. His eyes, too, were black and very bright. He had high cheekbones, a sharpcut nose, a spare, dark face—the face of a man used to giving orders, the face of an aristocrat. Turning to the giant in uniform, the general made a sign. The giant put away his pistol, saluted, withdrew.

"Ivan is an incredibly strong fellow," remarked the general, "but he has the misfortune to be deaf and dumb. A simple fellow, but, I'm afraid, like all his race, a bit of a savage."

"Is he Russian?"

“He is a Cossack,” said the general, and his smile showed red lips and pointed teeth. “So am I.”

…

Half apologetically General Zaroff said, “We do our best to preserve the amenities of civilization here. Please forgive any lapses. We are well off the beaten track, you know.”

…

Laughter shook the general. “How extraordinarily droll you are!” he said. “One does not expect nowadays to find a young man of the educated class, even in America, with such a naïve, and, if I may say so, mid-Victorian point of view. It’s like finding a snuffbox in a limousine. Ah, well, doubtless you had Puritan ancestors.

My choice would be more by inference than exact detail. The physical description is very important. Black, for example, is the dominant color (eyes, hair, mustache, eyebrows) and black is not associated with innocence.

Even his face is dark.

Those observations of color are likely what you are intended to choose.

For me, it would be the fact that he is a Cossack. That is a very telling characteristic. Cossacks are Russian, from the interior, and hard riding, very cruel and mean spirited or had that reputation in their time. The General is one of these people and so is his associate.  It's a strong hint of what's to come.

Perhaps his carnivorous nature is best shown by his pointed teeth when he smiles. His red lips give another indication. He's not a vegetarian.

In “Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard” by Thomas Gray, what mark have the forefathers left on history?
Ilya [14]

<span>Well, this question is the tricky one! Actually, there wasn't  left any marks, it is the main problem of this story. So in “Elegy Written in a Country Churchyard” by Thomas Gray, NO marks have the forefathers left on history? and according to this fact the only one correct answer is definitely the third option from the scale represented above - The forefathers have left no mark on history, having led “noiseless” lives.</span></span>

Pick a descriptive passage from a chapter of Silas Marner. Give reasons why you think that it adds to character in action.
slavikrds [6]
A descriptive passage that might reveal more information about Silas could be the following;
<span>"Strangely Marner’s face and figure shrank and bent themselves into a constant mechanical relation to the objects of his life, so that he produced the same sort of impression as a handle or a crooked tube, which has no meaning standing apart. The prominent eyes that used to look trusting and dreamy, now looked as if they had been made to see only one kind of thing that was very small, like tiny grain, for which they hunted everywhere; and he was so withered and yellow, that, though he was not yet forty, the children always called him “Old Master Marner.” (chapter 2)
</span>From this excerpt, the reader might get to know that he lives a mechanical life in the industrialized world so he seems to be dehumanized just for the fact that he lives to work and get money. It could be also perceived that his eyesight had been damaged because of work but his ability to see goes beyond the literal meaning of it. he is also deteriorated both physically, mentally  and spiritual
