One big example that you can get started with is the Three Gorges Dam in China. It's the world's largest hydroelectric plant that has just had its last generator put in. It was built to provide clean energy, but also to control the annual flooding of the Yangtze river which has been a historic problem for China.
 It's also a project that has a lot of controversy over it (it forced 1.4 million people to move to new homes because of the reservoir it would create, flooding out villages and cities behind the dam). There are also a large number of environmental concerns over it.

We need to improve the quality of life of present as well as future generations. There is a need of international cooperation and integration of the authorities to ensure the rational use of the resources.  

We need to reduce the exploitation of the resources for industrial use and move towards a greener economy. Urbanisation, industrialisation has led to more land use and deforestation has started on the larger extent. This will increase the temperature of the Earth by the increase of Carbon dioxide and causing global warming. The Kyoto Protocol, Paris Climate Treaty is the step in the right direction.
