The conflict began between two factions competing for profits from dry goods and cattle interests in the county. The older, established faction was dominated by James Dolan, who operated a dry goods monopoly through a general store referred to locally as "The House".
The main difference between these two parties was just who would have more power, the national or the state governments.
The Federalists as the name itself implies were those who supported the stronger federal government as they believed that if the states had more power the country would be weaker and would not be able to address the issue that would impact the whole nation quickly and efficiently.
The Democratic-Republicans on the other hand, again as their name implies, were more in favor of stronger state governments as they believed and feared that a strong federal government could lead to the loss of freedom they so desperately fought for.
Supporters of this act believed that trusts and monopolies should be eliminated. Trusts and monopolies were companies that eliminated competition, so this allowed them to regulate their own prices on goods. Supporters of the Sherman Antitrust Act opposed this.
The immediate causes of the war were economic sanctions that were taken by the British and French and used against the United States. Farmers wanted to expand west for more land, Britain was supplying the natives with weapons to keep America from expanding, and acts like the Embargo Act, Macon’s Bill and the Non-Intercourse Act were put into place. The outcome of the war advanced America’s identity by severing all ties with the UK and filled the country with national pride.
