Answer:

If they are at 0 feet below. First off 0 isn't positve or negative. So it would be the hiker in death valley hiked 0 degrees below. Positive or negative 0 is neither. tell me if i'm wrong.

It is given that, Altitude above sea level =Positive Values

                                          =Positive Integer{1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,.......}

Altitude below sea Level=Negative values

                                     =Negative Integer{-1,-2,-3,-4,-5,-6,.......}

Now, The situation given is

 A hiker in Death Valley stopping at an altitude of 0 feet

Zero(0)= The Point 0, means neither Positive nor Negative, that is additive Identity with respect to Addition of Integers.That is when two integers having Opposite sign, means additive Inverse of each other, are added together it yields Zero.

For example

-2 + 2=0

2 and -2 are Additive Inverse of each other.

Forrest is texting while driving along the freeway at 70 miles per hour. How many feetdoes the car travel during the 3-second in
MakcuM [25]

Answer:

d = 308ft

Therefore, the car travelled 308ft in 3sec

Step-by-step explanation:

Given;

Speed v = 70miles/hour

converting the speed to ft/sec. We have

v = 70miles/hour × 5280ft/mile × 1/3600sec/hour

v = 102.67ft/sec

Time = 3 sec

To determine the distance travelled in 3sec

distance = speed × time

d = 102.67 × 3

d = 308ft

Therefore, the car travelled 308ft in 3sec

Write out the first three terms and the last term. Then use the formula for the sum of the first n terms of an arithmetic sequen
Crank

Question:

Write out the first three terms and the last term. Then use the formula for the sum of the first n terms of an arithmetic sequence to find the indicated sum.

30

∑  (−3i+5)

i=1

Answer:

The first three terms are : 2, -1 and -4

The last term is: -85

The sum of the sequence is: -1245

Step-by-step explanation:

Given;

==================================

30

∑  (−3i+5)                    -------------------(i)

i=1

==================================

Where the ith term aₙ is given by;

a_{i} = -3i + 5         -------------------(ii)

(a) Therefore, to get the first three terms (a_1, a_2, a_3), we substitute i=1,2 and 3 into equation (ii) as follows;

a_{1} = -3(1) + 5 = 2

a_2 = -3(2) + 5 = -1

a_3 = -3(3) + 5= -4

Since the sum expression in equation (i) goes from i=1 to 30, then the last term of the sequence is when i = 30. This is given by;

a_{30} = -3(30) + 5 = -85

(b) The sum s_n of an arithmetic sequence is given by;

s_n = \frac{n}{2}[a_1 + a_n]   -----------------(iii)

Where;

n = number of terms in the sequence = 30

a_1 = first term = 2

a_n = last term = -85

Substitute the corresponding values of n, a_1 and a_n into equation (iii) as follows;

s_n = \frac{30}{2}[2 + (-85)]

s_n = 15[-83]

s_n = -1245

Juanita has 3 rectangular cards that are 8 inches by 9 inches. How can she arrange the cards, without overlapping, to make one l
ivann1987 [24]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

  • 3 rectangular cards
  • each card is 8 inches by 9 inches

The way that she can arrange the cards, without overlapping, to make one larger polygon with the smallest possible perimeter is that:

Put 3 cards together according to the length

So  the smallest possible perimeter is:

8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 8 + 9 + 9 = 66 inches as you can see in the attached photo.

The area of the polygon is equal to the combined area of the 3 cards without overlapping or extending.

Hope it can find you well.
