One reason fungi are no longer classified as plants is the presence of chitin in their cell walls.

Other reasons that why fungi are not classified as plants include that because they have no chloroplast, instead they feed on dead organic matters. Another reason is that they store carbohydrates in form of glycogen, instead of plants which store carbohydrates as starch instead.
