In fact, the history of progress of mankind is a history of informed dissent; much of creative activity of high quality in all areas of human endeavour at any given time has been a reflection of such dissent.
In a democracy, non-governmental organisations provide a platform to civil society to dissent in an informed and reasoned manner. They provide a mechanism for the ruled to keep a check on the rulers.
Hammurabi was the 6th Babylonian King in 18th
century BC while Confucius was a Chinese teacher, philosopher and a prophet who
passed away in 479 BC. They are from different times and cultures but there are
striking similarities between their teachings and writings.
Both of them emphasized on the rule of Law, Hammurabi is a
bit straight forward in citing the punishment for a crime while Confucius being
a philosopher quoted it in his teachings, urging people to abide by the rules
and law and giving such a man the title of “Great Man”. In the second example when Confucius is
stressing on family values and taking care of family, he is being straight
forward while Hammurabi when citing the same subject puts is in another way,
for example if someone son has died due to the negligence of a builder, the builder’s
son will be killed. That shows he is stressing on family values also.
And the final and most amazing similarity is the stressing
on Truth, both Hammurabi and Conscious seem uncompromising on this subject.
Men of sword, Men of pen, Men of nogation, Men of husbandry
Both compromises stated that in population counts, slaves were counted as 3/5s of a person. the 3/5s compromise helped end a debate on how many Senate seats the slave states would recieve, while the missouri Compromise helped some slave states form if they had enough population./
