The story of Cambodia after the Vietnam War continued to be conflictive. Things got worse with the  Khmer Rouge movement led by cruel leader Polt Pot got to power after Communist Vietnamese were expelled from Cambodia as well as the pro-US government in 1975. Pot controlled the capital city of Cambodia -Phnom Penh- and for five years, he established the Kampuchean People's Republic. Then, on January 7, 1979,

the Vietnamese soldiers capture Phnom Penh, and a Communist government was reestablished.
