Brooke is located 5 miles out at sea from a straight shoreline in her kayak. She wants to make it to the taco truck on the beach

for lunch, which is 6 miles from point A on the shore (see picture) Brook can paddle 2 miles per hour and walk 4 miles per hour. If she paddles along a straight line to shore, find an equation for the total time it will take Brooke to get to lunch. Your equation will depend on where Brooke beaches her kayak. Where should she beach the kayak to eat as soon as possible?

Answer:

x  =  1,2909  ml   (point where Brooke beaches her kayack)

Step-by-step explanation:

I did not find the indicated picture.  I design one  (See picture in Annex)

The route to follow by Brooke  is  x₁   +  x₂ and as we need to express total time.

s  (distance)  =  velocity* time    then     time t  =  distance / velocity

x₁  = √ (5)² + x²        ⇒  x₁  = √( 25 + x² )

and   x₂   =  (  6  -  x  )

x₁  = distance in kayack     ( speed 2 ml/h)

x₂  = distance walking       ( speed  4 ml/h)

Then total time as a function of x is

t(x)   =  √( 25 + x² ) / 2     +   (  6  -  x  ) / 4

Taking derivatives on both sides of the equation we get

t´(x)   =  2x* (2) / 4 *√( 25 + x² )  - 1/4

t´(x)   =  0       2x* (2) / 4 *√( 25 + x² )  - 1/4  = 0      x/√( 25 + x² ) - 1/4  = 0

x/√( 25 + x² )  = 1/4

x    =   √( 25 + x² ) /4

x²   =  (25 + x² ) /16

16*x²   = 25  +  x²

15x²   =  25          x  =  1,2909  ml   (point where Brooke beaches her kayack)

Then  walking distance is   x₂   =  6  - 1.2909    x₂  = 4.71 ml

How would you start to find the incenter of ΔABC?
natka813 [3]
The incenter of a triangle is the center of its inscribed circle. <span>Generally, the easiest way to find the incenter is by first determining the </span>inradius and then<span> each side of the triangle can be </span>translated<span> by the length of the inradius, We also can use coordinate geometry through this formula:

</span>(\frac{ax_{1}+bx_{2}+cx_{3}}{a+b+c},\frac{ay_{1}+by_{2}+cy_{3}}{a+b+c})

Being a, b, c side lengths and with (x_{1}, y_{1}); (x_{2}, y_{2}); (x_{3}, y_{3}); the vertices.<span>

The volume V of a cone varies jointly as the area of the base B and the height
seraphim [82]

Answer:

h = 9 cm.

Step-by-step explanation:

V = kBh   where k is the constant of variation.

From the given info:

32 = k*16*6 = 96k

So k = 32/96 = 1/3.

So we have the equation of variation:

V = 1/3Bh

When V = 60 B = 20, so:

60 = 1/3 20h

20h = 60 * 3 = 180

h = 180 /20 = 9.

You invested $4,200 into an account that pays an interest rate of 3.5% compounded continuously. What is the balance of your acco
nordsb [41]

Answer:

A=\$5003.2

Step-by-step explanation:

Use the exponential growth formula

A = Pe ^ {rt}

Where A is the final amount in the account, P is the initial amount, r is the growth rate and t is the time in years

In this problem

We know that

P=4,200\\\\r=\frac{3.5\%}{100\%}= 0.035\\\\ t=5\ years

So

A = 4,200e^{0.035t}

Finally after 5 years the balance of the account is:

A=\$5003.2

What polynomial should be subtracted from the polynomial y^2–5y+1 to get the difference equal to: y^2
fomenos
<h3>Answer:</h3>

-5y +1

<h3>Step-by-step explanation:</h3>

Let the polynomial to be subtracted be represented by Q. Then you want ...

... (y^2 -5y +1) -Q = y^2

... (y^2 -5y +1) = y^2 +Q . . . . add Q

... (y^2 -5y +1) -y^2 = Q . . . . .subtract y^2

... -5y +1 = Q . . . . . . . . . . . . . simplify

The polynomial to be subtracted is -5y +1.
