Modernism and Postmodernism are two artistic and philosophical movements. Modernism reflected the ideas of the "new century" (20th century). The century was greatly affected by World War I and the enormous impact it had on the younger generation. Moreover, it was a century of many changes, as the sadness of the war was replaced with the optimism of the 20s and then the disillusionment of the 30s.
Postmodernism follows Modernism, and the art of this time reflects a world of money, where Western nations became rich. With the end of WWII, standards of living rose, and capitalism became stronger, as well as consumerism, which is greatly criticised by postmodernists.
