The speech she gave as the Commencement speaker of the event saw her relive her days growing up in the housing project side of South Bronx. She also narrates how she had came upon the other honorees, and also spoke of the deep impact New York, especially Manhattan has for her and everyone in NYU. With her calm and precise manner of giving the address, her speech was a measured presentation, one where she talk of all that she had experienced and wanted others to learn too.
