These genetic modification are done to introduce new traits in plants for example, rapid growth, bigger size, drought tolerance, pests resistance etc. However, there are some concerns related to genetic engineering of plants. When a corn plant will be genetically modified to produce certain toxins that can protect it from pests there will be some negative impacts on the environment. The horizontal gene transfer mechanism can gradually increase the adaptation to that toxin and new pesticide-resistant pests will develop.
