I had exams coming up in a month and I was not prepared for them. Unfortunately, I had become part of a friend circle that did not believe in studying, homework or classes - we spent most of our time sitting in the college canteen, bunking classes to go for movies or simply gossiping over multiple cups of tea.

When the exams were barely 3 days away, it sort of hit me - what will my parents say when I fail my paper, that too the one I had planned to do my majors in? I started feverishly opening my books, but of course, there seemed to be a mountain of things to read, and I could barely make head or tail of it.

Woebegone, I called up one of the boys in our group and explained the predicament. He snorted, "Are you seriously planning to <em>study</em>?" "<em>What else?</em>" I asked incredulously. <em>"Well, I have better plans. I have managed to get my hands on the question paper! Want it? We'll easily pass and with good marks, if we know what exactly to stufy,"</em> he guffawed.

I couldn't say no. Cheating to pass was a shortcut, albeit a wrong one. But it would spare me from facing my parents later on. However, as luck would have it, my 'friend' was eventually caught by the headmaster... and he let out all our names as well, who were privy to the act. As a result of which, we were asked to repeat an entire year, as a punishment for our actions.

Here goes the saying: <em>Shortcut is </em><u><em>always</em></u><em> the wrong cut.</em>

Underline the subordinate clause in each complex sentence.

You didn't include the complex sentences so I don't know how to help you but a subordinate clause is a clause that can't become a stand alone sentence and can only be used with an independent clause.

1. What is the author’s argument in “The Many Sides of Volunteering”? How does the author support the argument? Use evidence from the text to support your response. Your response should be at least two complete paragraphs.

Answer: <em>The authors argument is that volunteering helps many people, not just those being directly benefited in visible ways. The author uses statistics from a study to support his/her argument. </em>

<em>So take the information above and add lots of info and textual support to create at least 8-10 sentences. As long as you payed close attention to details this shouldn't be to hard. :)</em>

Hope this helps!!

Conquering a dismal future is empowering, especially when the teens have to rely on themselves without having to answer to paren
Elanso [62]

Answer:

The option that BEST explains how these details develop a CENTRAL idea of the article is:

b. They both demonstrate the reasons why teens are drawn to dystopian novels.

Explanation:

This question is about the article "The Appeal of Dystopian Novels for Teens" by Jennifer Kendall. <u>The two details we are analyzing here are found in the section "Teen Appeal"</u>. Prior to the section, the author does focus on how dystopian novels and their characters have changed throughout history. H<u>owever, this particular section focuses on why teens are drawn to such novels. The two details are, thus, developing the idea that dystopian novels present an empowering and inspiring scenario, in which characters face challenges and injustice while counting only on themselves. That is what attracts the teenage audience to them.</u> Having that in mind, the best option is:

b. They both demonstrate the reasons why teens are drawn to dystopian novels.
