John Thornton was a was son of a US military officer col. Robert L Thornton born on  3rd  May 1949 in Fort Monroe, Virginia. He was also a Historian specialized in African history. He served as a professor at Boston University as a history professor. He also held some other posts in the United States and Africa including universities like the University of Virginia, University of Zambia and Allegheny College.  

His work “The Kingdom Of Kongo” revealed the idea that massive buildup od slaves worked in plantation during the 17th century related to the centralization of Kongo and increased the powers of the kings. He led to the rise of a new revolt against the Sao Salvador and lack of centralization. His works became the reason for his demise. Group of Yeehat shot him with arrows until his death. Later his friend Buck took revenge for his murder by joining hands with the pack of wolves whom he regarded as faithful ones.
