A portion of their wares. A farmer gave crops. A blacksmith gave weapons and armor, a carpenter would build whatever the Lord of his fief wanted, etc. It was pretty much a rent payment. Except rather than being kicked out if you didn't make your payment, you were killed.

How did eli Whitney’s invention of the cotton gin affect the cotton industry

Answer:

Because of Eli Whitney's invention the production of cotton  speeded up the process of removing the seeds from cotton fiber.  Also, the cotton gin reduced the  number of  workers needed to remove the seeds. However, it did increase the number of slaves needed to harvest cotton.
