Read the following excerpt from Sandra Cisneros’s story "Mericans." After all that dust and dark, the light from the plaza makes

me squinch my eyes like if I just came out of the movies. My brother Keeks is drawing squiggly lines on the concrete with a wedge of glass and the heel of his shoe. My brother Junior squatting against the entrance, talking to a lady and man. They’re not from here. Ladies don’t come to church dressed in pants. And everybody knows men aren’t supposed to wear shorts. “¿Quieres chicle?” the lady asks in a Spanish too big for her mouth. The irony in this excerpt contributes most to which of the following themes? It is always preferable to forget the past and focus on the future. It is possible for people to be connected to more than one culture. It is very easy to learn two different languages if one works hard. It is always easier to criticize people before getting to know them.

It can be observed that as the girl was standing at the plaza, she easily judged that the lady should not wear pants and the guy should not wear shorts in the church. She thought that they Americans but when the lady spoke, she was Spanish.

The short story “ Mericans “ written by Sandra Cisneros is the story about children from Mexican descent living in America. They are trying to find their identity between these two worlds. They don’t use their Mexican names in America but easier sounding English names. Micaella (Michelle) narrates the story and she shows the differences between the two cultures, like in the excerpt what the dress code is for church and the woman trying to speak Spanish.

Question: The irony in this excerpt contributes most to which of the following themes?

Answer: B. It is possible for people to be connected to more than one culture.

Please mark me brainliest because I worked hard on this and it took me almost 15 mins, I gave a deep explanation, and also I was the first person to answer lol. :)

Answer:

the answer is the second one. (ugly : pretty : ::tall :short)

Explanation:

Definition of Analogy- a comparison between two things, typically for the purpose of explanation or clarification.

Here is an example sentence- "an analogy between the workings of nature and those of human societies"

The reason why I chose the second answer is because it is comparing beauty/society. Like for example, "alissa is tall, but sam is short" or "Emily is ugly, but Jessica is pretty". These are all comparisons.

I didn't choose the first answer (dog : cat :: cat : mouse) because it is just saying opposites and it is not comparing, it is naming animals.

I didn't choose the third one (brush: comb :: broom: sweep) because, again, they are only naming objects.

I didn't choose the fourth one (yellow : bright :: one : little) because its not comparing and its just naming random things that don't even go together lol
