Answer:

D. Many artists wanted to separate themselves from cultural norms that led to the war

Explanation:

The exhibition "Vanguardias en el combate", presented by the Art and Exhibitions Hall of Germany, in Bonn, shows the influence of the First World War on modern art. The European warlike art did not emerge with the beginning of the First World War. In 1913, when the German artist Emil Nolde painted his painting "Soldiers", war was already announced. While some predicted the apocalypse, others, on the other hand, associated war with a revitalizing force that heralded a new era.

With the beginning of the war, the colors of Max Beckmann's paintings seem to disappear. His "Declaration of War", of 1914, does not seem to be painted, but drawn. Beckmann developed a new artistic language that was characterized by its simplicity and rigidity. Likewise, Paul Klee rejected the old methods of artistic expression. In 1915, he created the painting "View of the threatened city of Pinz". A year later, he leaves the front and goes to work in a shipyard near Munich. Klee takes advantage of every free minute to devote himself to painting.
