The widow she cried over me, and called me a poor lost lamb, and she called me a lot of other names, too, but she never meant no

harm by it. She put me in them new clothes again, and I couldn't do nothing but sweat and sweat, and feel all cramped up. Well, then, the old thing commenced again. The widow rung a bell for supper, and you had to come to time. When you got to the table you couldn't go right to eating, but you had to wait for the widow to tuck down her head and grumble a little over the victuals, though there warn't really anything the matter with them, that is, nothing only everything was cooked by itself. Based on the text, how would the widow be characterized? Is the characterization direct or indirect? A. The widow cares about Huck and takes care of him. The characterization is direct because the reader hears about her actions toward and thoughts about Huck. B. The widow cares about Huck and takes care of him. The characterization is indirect because the reader hears about her actions toward and thoughts about Huck. C. The widow does not care about Huck and does not take care of him. The characterization is direct because the reader hears about her actions toward and thoughts about Huck. D. The widow does not care about Huck and does not take care of him. The characterization is indirect because the reader hears about her actions toward and thoughts about Huck.

A. The widow cares about Huck and takes care of him. The characterization is direct because the reader hears about her actions toward and thoughts about Huck.

It is a direct characterization because the characteristics of the widow is told to the audience. Huck tells the audience the traits and attributes of the widow.

An indirect characterization shows the audience how the character acts in a situation. It urges the audience to engage himself in the story and identify what the characteristics of the widow are by showing how the widow acts towards Huck.
