In "Rules of the Game," chess prodigy Waverly engages in a battle of wills with her domineering mother. Waverly's traditional Chinese mother Lindo imposes traditional gender roles on her children. Waverly is relegated to doing chores, while her brothers are free to pursue their interests.
When I shook Coach's hand and received my award, I realized that I had not been a burden on my team and that in some way my presence helped them to achieve victory and efficiency in the game. In fact, I had no idea what my contribution was, but my coach stated that my perseverance and confidence in the team was essential for the victory. He stated that even if I did not participate in the games, I helped build the strategy, gave strength and advice to my teammates, cheered intensely in all games and even with my limitations I led the team in an exemplary way. The coach said that my work this season was the most difficult of all and that this made him immensely proud and that was why I needed to be rewarded. I was extremely touched and I could only thank everyone for all the consideration they had for me. I really did not believe that I had done anything great and I felt bad for thinking that I was not helping the team, for that reason, the prize was so important to me and created a memory that I will never forget.
