<u><em>Contrary to the widespread idea that abolition was one of the reasons why the Northerners responded to the war</em></u>, <u>Sutherland believes that, at the beginning, slavery was the least serious problem</u>.

<u>"It was not until the middle of the war, and for a variety of political, military and diplomatic reasons, that abolition joined the main cause of the war in northern thought, which was always the preservation of the Union. , many northerners opposed to fight for the abolition and they did not have intentions to defend the racial justice "</u>, <em><u>maintains</u></em>.

<u><em>Silber assures that although some consider today that the slaves</em></u> <u>"fought in defense of the 'rights of the states' of the south, in fact they were always explicit in that they fought to maintain the slavery and a system of white supremacy"</u>.

The correct answer to this open question is the following.

Politicians clouded the issue of the cause of the Civil War in the way they used the armed conflict to protect their agendas and interests.

Everybody knows that one of the most important issues that caused the Civil War was slavery. The abolitionists states of the North vs. the slavery states of the South.

But it truly was not a fight to free the African Americans that worked in the South. There was an economic reason that represented a major hinder. The economy of the southern states depended completely on slavery. Landowners had large plantations in the South and needed salves to produce the kind of cash crops that were traded and exported to Europe. Southern politicians amassed a considerable grade o power and this represented a threat to Northern politicians and their states. The Union States though that the increased number of slaves could affect their presence and decision power in the US Congress, passing legislation that favored the South against the North.

During the constitutional convention of 1787 George mason argued
icang [17]

George Mason did not want the Constitution and did not want to sign it. He did not want the federal government to have a large amount of power, as this gave the government a lot power to put on citizens, like the British did to the colonists. George Mason wanted a strong central government, like the Articles of Confederation, which gives very little power to the government, and makes it so they can not regulate trade or even effectively make people obey to certain laws.
