In "A Modest Proposal", Jonathan Swift writes about how Ireland is suffering for being under British rule, about how impoverished couples have trouble feeding their children. Mothers have to beg on the streets carrying their children with them. It is also common to see children begging on the streets. To avoid this, Swift suggests in a satirical way that women should sell their children to rich English landowners.
