When I refer to integrity, I have something very specific in mind. Integrity, as I will use the term, requires three steps: disc

erning what is right and what is wrong; acting on what you have discerned, even at personal cost; and saying openly that you are acting on your understanding of right and wrong. The first criterion captures the idea that integrity requires a degree of moral reflectiveness. The second brings in the ideal of a person of integrity as steadfast, a quality that includes keeping one’s commitments. The third reminds us that a person of integrity can be trusted.

Based on the passage above, which of the following reflects the correct use of quotation marks?

“When I refer to integrity,” I have something specific in mind, states Carter.
Carter states that the first criterion states that integrity requires a degree of “moral reflectiveness.”
“acting on what you have discerned is one of the “three steps” of Carter’s definition of integrity.”
According to Carter, integrity “includes keeping one’s commitments.”

what is the appositive in this sentence one of the richest man in the world, bill gates started microsoft
AnnyKZ [126]
One of the richest men in the world is the appositive.
It has a comma that separates it from the rest of the sentence and the sentence makes sense without it as "Bill Gates started Microsoft."
If Bill Gates had a comma after it, it would be the apositive and the sentence would be "One of the richest men in the world started Microsoft," but since there is only one comma the appositve is "One of the richest men in the world."

Which of these is a good example of the author's use of dialogue to build suspense?
True [87]

The dialogue which is a good example of the author's use of dialogue to build suspense is, “You are rich, respected, admired, beloved; you are happy, as once I was. You are a man to be missed.”

Answer: Option B.

Explanation:

Many a times, authors make use of words or dialogue to create a suspense in the minds of readers, as in it makes a person curious or anxious to known about the uncertainty of what happened or might happen. The dialogue ‘You are rich, respected, admired, beloved; you are happy, as once I was. You are a man to be missed’ is taken from a short story ‘The Cask of Amontillado’ written by Edgar Poe. This dialogue builds suspense in a sense that the words ‘as once I was’ makes a reader anxious about what might have happened in a narrator’s life that he’s no more happy. The dialogue leaves space for uncertainty of the events that took place.
