Use your finger or something to point at the letters, and then go through the lines either horizontally or vertically and look for the letter. Every time you stop at the first letter of your word, look for the second and third letters around it (Backward, frontward, diagnol, verticle, horizontal.)
I usually find the word in a matter of minutes when I use this trick.
