Themes of the call of the wild

In The Call of the Wild, primitivity is presented as the authentic and dominant side of a being. Modernization and civilization, then, go against true nature. Primitivity is tied to ancestry and history; as Buck has dreams of mankind thousands of years before, he yearns to be a part of the wild world to which his predecessors belonged.
Suffering in The Call of the Wild is largely physical. We expect our protagonist to feel a certain level of emotional turmoil after he is taken from his home, but instead his survivalist tendencies kick in. The story becomes one about surviving physical hardships rather than dwelling on thoughts and feelings. Buck endures suffering at the hands of the wilderness (the hard conditions, the freezing cold), other dogs (both in his pack and feral), and man (always in the form of a weapon like a club or a whip). Buck’s suffering, though, is an important part of his character development. The Call of the Wild shows that whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
In The Call of the Wild, the thirst to prove himself is a large part of Buck’s transformation into a more powerful and dominant dog. While pride does play second fiddle to survival, it explains why Buck excelled instead of merely staying alive. Pride is the difference between pulling the sled and being the lead dog on the sled team, between being adequately strong and moving a thousand-pound load. While pride does add complications to life in the wilderness (such as fights with other dogs for dominance), it is also beneficial as a means of motivation.

Mary had a little lamb whose fleece was white as snow.
Yanka [14]
I think the correct answer from the choices listed above is option D. The figure of speech being used here is a simile. The use of the word "as" shows that a simile is being used to compare the quality of the fleece to snow. Hope this answers the question. Have a nice day.

explain how Brooks's use of end-rhyme and internal-rhyme contributes to the overall meaning of the poem.
Assoli18 [71]

Answer: Edgar Allan Poe uses both internal and external rhyming patterns in “The Raven.” In general, internal rhyme occurs when the middle word of a line rhymes with the ending word of the same line. Poe takes internal rhyme to another level by having it carry over two lines. He rhymes the middle word of the first line with the ending word, and the middle word in the next line.

Looking at line one of the poem, the reader sees an example of internal rhyme. The middle word dreary rhymes with the ending word weary.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary,

Lines 3 and 4 in the first stanza demonstrate Poe’s extension of the internal rhyming device. This is still considered to be internal rhyme because the rhyming word is within the second line, not at the end.

While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping, As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.

The words napping and tapping rhyme in the first line, while rhyming with rapping, which is the middle word of the second line.

External rhyme occurs at the end of lines. The final sound of the last word of a line rhymes with the final word of another line. Again, look at the first stanza.

Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered, weak and weary, Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore—         While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,    As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.       “’Tis some visitor,” I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door—    Only this and nothing more.”

In lines 2, 3, 4, and 5, the rhyme occurs at the end of the lines with the words, lore, door, and more. This is an example of external rhyme. The rhyming pattern is labeled ABCBBB.

As you continue reading the poem, you will find other examples of both internal and external rhyming.
