Simile

Line 10 from the poem "Cynthia in the snow" is "Still white as milk or shirts,". This line compares the color of the snow to milk and shirts using the word "as". A simile is a comparison between two unlike things using like or as. Other types of figurative language found in this poem are onomatopoeia and alliteration. Onomatopoeia is a word that makes the sound it represents like "shushes" and "hushes". Alliteration is the repetition of the same sound at the beginning of a group of words. In the poem the /l/ and /w/ sounds are often repeated.
