The dorr war also called Dorr rebellion of 1841 to 1843 happened when middle class residents tried to force broader democracy in Rhode Island. Thomas Wilson Dorr led the rebellion because he wanted a new constitution and an abolishing of voting restrictions. The rebellion failed. He was charged with treason and received a life sentence. But was released a year later.
