What were the roles of the branches of government in the Watergate scandal?

The Media first published the information about the break-in at Watergate which led to an investigation by the Legislative, specifically the Senate.

Witnesses were called to testify and when they asked for tapes that would help the case. The Executive refused to cooperate which forced the matter to end up in the Supreme Court (Judiciary) which ruled that the secret tape recordings were not protected by Executive privilege.

As a result of the scandal, the House of Representatives (Legislative) started the impeachment procedure against Nixon.
