Coyoacán is a municipality of Mexico City and the previous town which is currently the precinct's "historic center." The town, later region, of Coyoacan remained totally free of Mexico City through the frontier time frame into the nineteenth century. The urban sprawl of Mexico City achieved the district in the mid twentieth century, turning ranches, previous lakes and timberlands into created territories, yet a large number of the previous towns have kept their unique formats, squares and limited boulevards and have preserved structures worked from the sixteenth to the mid twentieth hundreds of years. This has made the district of Coyoacan, particularly its noteworthy focus, a mainstream place to visit on ends of the week.
