The infinitive that is used in the given sentence above is "to sail". So to make this into a gerund form, it will become "sailing". Therefore, the new sentence will be like this: The laughing boy in the boat likes SAILING. Hope this answers your question.

Gerunds in a sentence functions as a noun. Hence in a sentence, a gerund will act as direct objects, subjects, subject complements, an object of prepositions or indirect objects. Every gerund ends in -ing, and so does present participles. On the other hand, present participles act as modifiers or complete progressive verbs.

On the other hand, infinitive verbs are formed by adding 'to' to the base form of the verb. for example, to eat, to sleep etc.

Therefore, on revising the sentence by replacing the infinitive 'to sail' with the gerund form of the verb will be written as,

The laughing boy in the boat likes sailing.

Hello There!

There was one main central argument in the delegation on independence. They wanted a government to protect the people and this was because Britain did not protect the rights of the colonists who lived there. This led them to think that a new government has got to be formed.

What is most likely to be the authors purpose of the following statement?
Sedbober [7]

I would choose D. It isn't A because there isn't a clear comparison in the passage. It isn't B because there is no contradiction. C simply doesn't make sense. If you had a strong feel why would you make it seem insignificant? So that is why I picked D.
