mRNA molecules are synthesized from one strand of DNA. The mRNA strand transports the DNA information for a particular gene from the nucleus of the cell to a ribosome for protein synthesis. Once the mRNA strand directs protein synthesis, the strand is destroyed. The transcription of a gene is controlled by the cell.

The process by which DNA is copied to RNA is called transcription, and that by which RNA is used to produce proteins is called translation.

What is a major difference between facilitated diffusion and active transport?
Novay_Z [31]

Answer:

Major difference between active transport and facilitated difusion is:

Active transport moves substances against the concentration gradient.

Facilitated diffusion moves molecules through the plasma membrane.

Explanation:

 • Active transport involves the transport of molecules against the concentration gradient.
 • Since molecules move from lower concentration to higher concentration this mode of transport needs energy.
 • Facilitated diffusion do not require energy but need some other molecule or carrier protein to transport the molecules across the membranes.
 • In facilitated diffusion, the molecules move from their region of higher concentration to the region of lower concentration.

In the ionic compound KF, what is the charge on K?
slavikrds [6]

Answer:

Charge on K is +1.

Explanation:

This gives potassium eight valence electrons in its third energy level, and flourine eight valence electrons in its second energy level. This also produces a potassium cation K+ with +1 charge and a flouride anion F- with -1 charge.

High levels of salt (Na Cl-) can disrupt the tertiary structure of proteins. What effect do you think increasing concentrations
melamori03 [73]

Increasing concentrations of salt would disrupt lactase activity by disrupting its tertiary structure. This enzyme breaks down lactose.

What is an enzyme?

An enzyme is a protein that acts to lower the activation energy of a given chemical reaction.

Lactase is an enzyme that acts to break down lactose (a disaccharide) into galactose and glucose.

Different conditions in the media (in this case, concentrations of salt) may disrupt enzyme activity by altering its tertiary 3D structure.
