mRNA molecules are synthesized from one strand of DNA. The mRNA strand transports the DNA information for a particular gene from the nucleus of the cell to a ribosome for protein synthesis. Once the mRNA strand directs protein synthesis, the strand is destroyed. The transcription of a gene is controlled by the cell.
