The profession of the pioneer of the Silk Road was being an imperial representative of the Han Dynasty. Zhang Qian, the imperial representative of the Han dynasty, was entrusted with the responsibility of spreading the economic and political power of the Chinese Han dynasty into the rest of the Asian continent, to travel to subjugated Chinese colonies, and bring reports about them back to the Chinese Emperor. The Silk Route placed China in the crossroads of a lucrative ancient commercial trade, as Chinese silk was a prized import in Europe, while spices were mostly used in aristocratic European kitchens, in preparation of medicine and food preparation.

Further Explanation-

The Great Chinese Han dynasty wanted to expand its political and commercial influence throughout the Asian continent, and take control of the lucrative Silk trade to Europe and the West. The methods of Chinese sericulture were one of the most advanced during the ancient period and was a luxurious demand among several European aristocratic families. Zhang Qian was an outstanding royal envoy and explorer of the Han Dynasty, under the reign of Emperor Wudi. His travels to the Western provinces of Da Yuehuzi and Gansu Provinces in his attempts to secure an alliance with the, against the Huns opened up several routes, which established the lucrative Silk route, connecting the East and the West.Although some of his diplomatic missions were unsuccessful, he managed to develop a thorough understanding of the customs, lifestyle and environmental conditions of almost thirty-six western provinces. This information proved useful to Emperor Wudi to expand his diplomatic and economic connections with these Western provinces. The constant supply of revenue from the lucrative silk trade on the silk route provided the financial basis for undertaking campaigns to defeat the Huns. However, it has to be understood that many other commodities such as spices, gold, expensive metals, muslin, camels, horses, myrrh, dates, and palms were also traded between the East and the West along the Silk Route.
