The factors that contributed to the creation of the wheat belt in the great plains were the <em>climate that had the warmth and the rain needed to grow wheat, the altitude, nighttime temperatures, soil conditions, and farming practices</em>. Everything made the place perfect.

After the <em>World War I came the Panic of 1893</em>, prices began to go down <em>25 to 50 percent</em>, farmers began to be <em>overwhelmed with debt</em> and the number of farms went down but the size of them went up. <em>Wheat became a supplement </em>of maize, cotton, and oilseeds. It was considered safer to have an <em>economic diversification.</em>
