This platform was a successor of the failed League of Nations, to ensure international cooperation between all the countries. And it was also created to keep another devastating World war from happening. This was initially hard for the UN because of the ensuing Cold War between the Soviet Union and the US.
Soon the UN's budget for developmental and social reforms was more than peacekeeping.
Evaluations of the effectiveness of the assurance of world peace by the UN has always received mixed criticism.
