The United States were one of the countries that benefited from this treaty. The United States got three new territories, Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines. All three were of great strategic importance, and the United States actually managed to keep hold onto Guam and Puerto Rico over the years and still controls them, while the Philippines are now an independent nation.
