The Spanish-American Guerrra took place between April 21, 1898 and August 13, 1898, after a brief war with the United States, the last three overseas colonies owned by the vast Spanish Empire came to an end. The Philippines, Puerto Rico and Cuba became pseudo-independent entities under the protection of the United States, the new power. The conflict was brief and devastating morally for the Spaniards.
