According to Dante, in his text the Inferno, it was God who built the Gate of Hell.  However, Dante only implies that it was God who built the Gate of Hell.  He never directly states who the builder was.

To my mind, the answer ( B ) is the inappropriate  sentence. In a formal writing  informal tone must be avoided as well as colloquial expressions.
