Note: I had to write FA in that order, and not the other way around, due to the filter.

Part 1

There are 2 answers and they are

  • Choice 2) FA/AB = FG/BC
  • Choice 3) AB/FA= BC/FG

------------------

Explanation:

For any of the answer choices we are involving the following segments

  • AB
  • FA
  • BC
  • FG

So we're only involving four segments. They are paired up to form fractions which are then set equal to one another. Notice how segment FA is smaller than AB, and how they correspond together. Going from FA to AB means go from small to big. If we write the ratio FA/AB, then can think of it as small/big.

Also note that FG is smaller than BC, and both segments also correspond as they are both going downhill from left to right. So we can write FG/BC to set equal to the first fraction we set up.

Overall, the proportion FA/AB = FG/BC is one valid answer.

The other valid answer is AB/FA= BC/FG. This equation is formed by applying the reciprocal to both sides of the first equation mentioned.

We can rule out choice 1 because FA/AB is small/big, but BC/FG is big/small. The two don't match up. Choice 4 is ruled out because AB does not correspond to FG.

=====================================================

Part 2

<h3>Answer:  27</h3>

------------------

Explanation:

Through similar ideas mentioned in part 1, we can form this proportion

FA/AB = AG/AC

we have the format small/big = small/big

We are given these values either in word form or through the diagram

  • FA= 15
  • AB = FA+FB = 15+30 = 45
  • AC = 81

Plug in those given values and isolate AG

FA/AB = AG/AC

15/45 = AG/81

15*81 = 45*AG .... cross multiply

1215 = 45AG

45AG = 1215

AG = 1215/45 .... divide both sides by 45

AG = 27

Segment AG is 27 inches long.

A fair 6-faced die is tossed twice. Letting E and F represent the outcomes of the each toss (which are independent), compute the
andreyandreev [35.5K]

Answer:

(a)  \frac{1}{18}            (d)  \frac{1}{9}

(b) \frac{1}{2}               (e) \frac{1}{3}

(c) \frac{4}{9}               (f)  \frac{1}{12}

Step-by-step explanation:

On tossing a 6-face die twice the outcomes of E and F are:

{1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6}

And there are total 36 outcomes of the form (E, F).

(a)

The sample space of getting a sum of 11 is: {(5, 6) and (6, 5)}

The probability  of getting a sum of 11 is:

P(Sum 11) =\frac{2}{36} \\=\frac{1}{18}

(b)

The sample space of getting an even sum is:

{(1, 1), (1, 3), (1, 5), (2, 2), (2, 4), (2, 6) (3, 1), (3, 3), (3, 5), (4, 2), (4, 4), (4, 6) (5, 1), (5, 3), (5, 5), (6, 2), (6, 4), (6, 6)}

The probability  of getting an even sum is:

P(Even Sum)=\frac{18}{36}\\ =\frac{1}{2}

(c)

The sample space of getting an odd sum more than 3 is:

{(1, 4), (1, 6), (2, 3), (2, 5), (3, 2), (3, 4), (3, 6), (4, 1), (4, 3), (4, 5), (5, 2), (5, 4),     (5, 6), (6, 1), (6, 3) and (6, 5)}

The probability of getting an odd sum more than 3 is:

<em>P</em> (Odd Sum more than 3) =

=\frac{16}{36}\\=\frac{4}{9}

(d)

The sample space of (E, F) such that E is even and less than 6, and F is odd and greater than 1 is:

{(2, 3), (2, 5), (4, 3) and (4, 5)}

The probability such that E is even and less than 6, and F is odd and greater than 1 is:

P(Even E1) =\frac{4}{36} \\=\frac{1}{9}

(e)

The sample space of E and F such that E is more than 2, and F is less than 4 is:

E = {3, 4, 5 and 6}     F = {1, 2 and 3}

Then the total outcomes of (E, F) will be 12.

The probability such that E is more than 2, and F is less than 4 is:

P(E>2, F

(f)

The sample space of (E, F) such that E is 4 and sum of E and F is odd is:

{(4, 1), (4, 3) and (4, 5)}

The probability such that E is 4 and sum of E and F is odd is:

P(E=4, E+F = Odd)=\frac{3}{36} \\=\frac{1}{12}

Adam and beth each drove from smallville to crown city by different routes. adam drove an an average speed of 40 miles per hour
Anna71 [15]

Adam's average speed = 40 miles per hr

time for the trip = 30 minutes = 0.5 hrs

Distance travelled by adam = speed * time = 40 * 0.5 = 20 miles

Distance travelled by Beth is 5 miles longer means 20 + 5 = 25 miles

Time took by Beth is 20 minutes more means = 30 + 20 = 50 minutes = 0.83 hrs

Average speed of Beth = distance / time = 25 / 0.8333

Average speed of Beth = 30 miles : Answer

Hope it will help :)
