Which two lines in this passage are a flashback? Helen stood at one end of the room taking in all the activity; Rupert and Phoeb

e danced to the loud music that drowned all other voices. Food, friends, music—how they brought people together. She thought of her last day in middle school, seven years ago, when Sarah had given her an iPod. She had felt ecstatic that day when she realized she would be able to listen to her favorite songs and fend off comments from her cousins about how little she knew about music. She smiled as she drew out the envelope from her clutch. Tomorrow at this time she would be performing solo at the Royal Hall of Music; she could almost hear the thunderous applause. The music stopped and Phoebe called out her name. Helen almost dropped the envelope as she walked up to congratulate Phoebe.

"She thought of her last day... She had felt ecstatic..."

Both allude to memory, first of an event then of the feeling she had during that event.

Which two sentences in this excerpt from F. Scott Fitzgerald's "Winter Dreams" seem to foreshadow Dexter’s future obsession with
irina1246 [14]

The two sentences that seem to foreshadow Dexter’s future obsession with “possessing” Judy Jones are "He wanted not association with glittering things and glittering people—he wanted the glittering things themselves" and "Often he reached out for the best without knowing why he wanted it—and sometimes he ran up against the mysterious denials and prohibitions in which life indulges".

In "Winter Dreams" by F. Scott Fitzgerald, Dexter, who is the main character of the story, believes that Judy is the ideal woman. Although she is selfish, he pursues Judy because he has an idealistic view of her; in other words, he does not conceive her as a flawed human being. However, this idealistic view is shattered when she becomes a housewife.

This two sentences seem to foreshadow Dexter's obsession because the phrase "glittering things" could refer to Judy, whom Dexter sees as radiant. Moreover, the second sentence, which implies that Dexter wanted things without knowing why, is connected to the fact that he never loved Judy for who she was since he was always in love with an ideal of womanhood.
