Both nationalism and imperialism, along with militarism, were very intertwined during this time, since nationalism created an "us vs. them" type of mentality that led countries to want to take over and occupy more territory.

Why do you think general order 143 and the emancipation proclamation were important during the civil war
klasskru [66]
The Emancipation Proclamation issued by President Abraham Lincoln on January 1, 1863 that abolished slavery in all states including those in the Confederacy. It is still an important document today because it finally removed the practice of slavery in America. Never again would people be bought or sold like property and it also defined that all people were equal and that no one had the right to enslave another. General Order 143 that enabled slaves and free blacks to enlist in the Union Army during the Civil War. The color regiments performed well and President praised these men for their sacrifice in winning the war. It is still relevant today , we judge not by their color but how well they perform and how committed they are to the cause at hand.

What powers remained with the king after the magna carta and how were they important
Marizza181 [45]

King John ruled England for almost two decades (1199-1216) and was well known as a heavy handed ruler. He would often wage unnecessary wars and burden his subjects with heavy taxes to pay for them. King John begrudgingly signed the Magna Carta because he needed the barons to fight his wars and collect his taxes.
