The United States strived to maintain in European conflicts because they wanted for Europe to remain slightly weaker in a way which caused them to be able to expand themselves faster and more easily; compared to Europe. With the US economy booming, this was a main reason why they wanted to maintain European conflicts.

It was their neutrality.  They were still in the process of building a country.  Setting up laws and meeting the needs of the people were their primary concerns.  As much as possible, they avoided conflict as much as they could.
