If we are talking about measures of center, then the average (mean) will change when the outlier is excluded. That's because, median, unlike the mean, is not changed by an outlier. Let's see this through an example.

We have the data set: 0, 225, 226, 227, 230. 0 is obviously an outlier in this situation. Now, let's calculate the measures of center. The median is 226 (because median is the middle value). The mean, on the other hand, is 181.6. There is a huge disparity between these two numbers. But, the median is much closer to the overall group.

Now let's take away the outlier. The median becomes 226.5, not much further from what it was the last time. But, the average drastically changes to 227. This shows how an average (mean) drastically changes with an outlier.

Solution to the system of equation -6x+y=-3 and 7x-y=3
djverab [1.8K]

Answer:

X = 0

Y = -3

Step-by-step explanation:

In this situation you would choose elimination.

-6x+y=-3

7x-y=3

---------------

x = 0

plug back in to find y

(-6)(0) + y = -3

0 + y = -3

y = -3

plug in to other equation for double check

7(0) - (-3) = 3

0 + 3 = 3

3 = 3

Hope this helps

HUDSON HAS TO FILL A POT WITH 1 QUART OF WATER. ALL HE HAS IS 1/4 CUP MEASURING CUP. HOW MANY TIMES DOES HE HAVE TO FILL THE 1/4
Marta_Voda [28]
There are 4 cups in a quart.

So if Hudson has only a 1/4 measuring cup, this can be represented by the equation:

4/1/4, solving it we get: 4* 4 (dividing turns a fraction into its reciprocal)

So, 4*4=16

Hudson will have to fill the 1/4 measuring cup 16 times to get a quart.

I hope this helps!

Lois says any addition equation where the addends are all the same can be written as a multiplication equation. Is Lois correct
USPshnik [31]
Lois is correct. This is because multiplication is repeated addition. It means that when your addends are just the same number but added several times, the sum is just equivalent to the product of that number times the number of times it was added. For example, 4+4+4 = 4×3 = 12.
