Answer:

Mita was a system where natives of Latin America were forced to work in Spanish mines.

Explanation:

In Latin America during the colonial period, a mandatory form of work was established, imposed on the indigenous people of this region. In fact, this labor regime was not created by the Spaniards, but rather bequeathed to them by the Inca culture itself - a native empire that extended from the far north, Ecuador and southern Colombia, encompassing Peru, Bolivia, reaching northwest of Argentina and northern Chile; its capital was the current city of Cuzco. The myth was widely applied in mines and in the most important properties, especially in Peru and in the region known as Alto Peru.

The natives worked under terrible conditions, exposed to lung diseases, as a result of the polluted and humid atmosphere. While they were submitted to this work, they did not leave there, they slept in the same place where they performed their tasks, inside the mine. This martyrdom lasted at least four months, because the workers' bodies could not endure a longer time. After this period expired, they returned to their homes.
