I believe this is the correct term, had eaten wouldn't make sense with anything, frozen,eaten would make no sense because still eaten isn't grammatically correct, hope this helps.
If my memory serves me well, Tim the ostler is the one who sacrifices his life to warn the Highwayman to escape the ambush. This is the only one that I remember.
